Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) is the area of the jaw that connects to the skull. Temporal Mandibular Disorder, or TMD, is a disorder of the joint associated with pain, limited opening of the jaw, and/or popping. Treatment consists of orthodontics to correctly align teeth to decrease the strain placed at the joint, fabrication of a nightguard to prevent grinding at night, and replacing missing teeth with bridges or dentures to spread the forces of mastication evenly among more teeth.
